Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio believes that the grain shortage due to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict would cause new wars in the world.
If grain is not exported from Ukrainian ports, there will be new wars in Africa and an influx of migrants in Europe, Di Maio said in a tweet Monday.
Ukrainian media quoted the Italian foreign minister as saying Russian President Vladimir Putin must reach a peace agreement as soon as possible, which also includes an agreement on wheat, for example, a ceasefire agreement to allow evacuation of women, civilians and children.
