Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said Friday that expanding reliance on domestic production is essential to overcoming the country’s economic difficulties, while urging a gradual reduction in the dollar’s dominant role in the economy.
In a message issued for Iran’s Government Week, Khamenei called on the government to give “serious attention” to the interconnected challenges affecting the economy and people’s livelihoods, including inflation, unemployment, price controls, and the regulation of goods and services markets.
He also advocated faster economic growth, greater investment directed toward vital and productive sectors, stronger support for domestic output, and making “resistance economy” policies the cornerstone of the government’s economic strategy.
“The central solution to all these problems is to rely increasingly on domestic production,” he said.
He added that boosting production while carefully managing imports and prices could gradually eliminate the “dark spots” in Iran’s economy.
