TEHRAN (MENA) – Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani said on Sunday the country will form an interim leadership council later in the day until the selection of the next leader.
Larijani said in a press briefing, carried by Iran’s official IRNA news agency, “We have put in place a plan to arrange the leadership in accordance with the constitution,” stressing that Iran’s armed forces are ready and will defend the country’s sovereignty.
He added that Iran will not tolerate any moves aimed at dividing the country, emphasising that the Iranian people will not allow the nation to be dismantled or partitioned.
“They believe that assassinating leaders will destabilise Iran,” he said, adding, “We will witness fluctuations in the coming days, but the outlook will be bright.”
Larijani also said the armed forces have secured significant resources, paving the way for the continuation of operations, noting that the foundations were laid during a meeting held on Saturday and that the formation of the temporary leadership council is imminent.
