A huge fire broke out overnight in the popular Marché des Enfants Rouges in Paris.
The mayor of Paris Centre Ariel Weil said that the fire was under control, but the iconic landmark popular with locals and tourists had been “totally destroyed”.
Images circulating on social media show huge flames and billowing smoke rising above the City of Light, the Daily Express reported.
The Marché des Enfants-Rouges is the oldest covered market in the capital, according to Le Monde. It was listed as a historical monument in 1982 and includes restaurants, food stores, florists and wine merchants.
The Marché des Enfants Rouges was “ravaged” by flames early this morning.
