Egypt has prevented efforts to forcibly displace the Palestinian population, Spokesman for the Fatah movement Abdel Fattah Dawla told Al Qahera News Channel, according to remarks broadcast on Saturday.
“Egypt is always thinking about the rights of the Palestinian people and their cause, and wants to end the aggression,” the spokesman said.
Dawla added that although Washington was seeking to halt the war in Gaza, it had not adopted a position hostile to Israel.
Israel would not accept what he described as a merely symbolic handover of weapons by Hamas, the spokesman said, adding that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wanted to keep the Gaza Strip isolated.
“We do not want a new trusteeship over the Palestinian people,” Dawla said.
