Mohamed Mansour, official spokesman for the Egyptian Committee in the Gaza Strip, has urged the international community to follow Egypt’s example and intensify humanitarian efforts by increasing relief convoys to the Palestinian enclave to meet Palestinians’ growing needs.
He stressed that the scale of the humanitarian suffering requires a broader and more sustained international response.
In exclusive statements to Extra News on Monday, Mansour underscored the need for coordinated international efforts to ensure the continued flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza, particularly flour, food parcels and medical supplies, amid a worsening food crisis, shortages of basic necessities and the continued harsh humanitarian conditions facing Palestinians.
The spokesman said that bakeries across the enclave resumed operations on Monday after being shut down for three days due to a flour crisis and shortages of supplies.
Egyptian efforts had helped provide flour and reopen the bakeries, he said, while humanitarian needs continued to grow.
Mansour added that food shortages and famine have taken a heavy toll on children and adults in Gaza, worsening the population’s living conditions.
He stressed that Egypt has been continuing its efforts to support the Palestinian people, reaffirming its firm position that Gaza is not alone. These efforts are reflected in the entry of aid convoys carrying flour, food and essential supplies.
He affirmed that the reopening of bakeries marks an important step toward easing the bread crisis, but the quantities of aid that had reached the enclave remain below the population’s actual needs amid the exceptional humanitarian conditions facing Palestinians.
Mansour noted that the Egyptian Committee had supported more than 17 bakeries across northern, central and southern Gaza, enabling civilians to obtain bread close to where they live. Egypt’s efforts also included distributing around one million loaves of bread daily to families across the enclave, he added.
He reiterated the importance of sustaining Egyptian humanitarian assistance and expanding the international response to ensure that Gaza’s residents have access to the basic necessities of life, stressing that Palestinians must not be left alone to face the current humanitarian crisis.
Mansour also conveyed a message of appreciation from Gaza’s residents to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the Egyptian people for their continued support, saying Egypt remains an important source of support for Palestinians under the current circumstances.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian Red Crescent continues to deliver various forms of humanitarian assistance to Gaza. Its latest convoy, the 303rd under the “Zad Al-Ezza: From Egypt to Gaza” initiative, entered the enclave on Monday, carrying more than 3,690 tons of urgent humanitarian aid and relief supplies, including over 1,574 tons of flour and food parcels.
The deliveries are part of Egypt’s efforts to ease the humanitarian crisis and meet Palestinians’ basic needs in the enclave.
