Egypt has sent 10 tonnes of medicines and medical supplies to Lebanon, in a shipment that arrived Monday at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport, Lebanese authorities said.
The aid was handed over to Lebanon’s director general at the Ministry of Public Health, Weam Abu Hamdan, in the presence of Egypt’s charge d’affaires in Beirut, Mahmoud Hamdi.
Hamdi said the shipment was sent on the instructions of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and carried “a message of love and solidarity” to the Lebanese people.
He added that the assistance was part of Egypt’s ongoing support for Lebanon, following a visit by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati in March, during which he reaffirmed Cairo’s commitment to providing aid and support to the country.
“We hope these supplies will, even modestly, help ease the suffering of the Lebanese people and support their health, safety and security,” Hamdi said.
Abu Hamdan expressed Lebanon’s gratitude for the donation, saying Egypt had “always stood by Lebanon in all circumstances.”
The medicines will be distributed across Lebanon, from the north to the south, without discrimination, he said.
“We thank Egypt — its leadership, government and people — as well as all our brotherly Arab countries,” Abu Hamdan added.
