Lebanese President Michel Aoun expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the role Egypt has been playing, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, to help Lebanon face the various crises, especially the government crisis.

A statement issued by the Lebanese Presidency Wednesday, following talks between President Aoun and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri, stated that Aoun expressed hope that the Egyptian efforts would bear positive results, especially if there was a real will to get out of the government crisis.

This would be achieved by adopting the constitutional rules upon which the Lebanese system is based, in co-operation with all Lebanese parties, without exclusion or discrimination.

The Lebanese presidency added that Foreign Minister Shoukri conveyed to President Aoun a message from President Sisi, confirming the solidarity of Egypt with Lebanon and its support for the efforts to form a new government.

The presidential statement indicated that Aoun explained to Minister Shoukri the obstacles that faced the path of forming the new government. He conveyed his greetings to President Sisi and thanked him for his initiative based on Egypt standing at the same distance from all the Lebanese parties.

After his meeting with President Oun, Shoukri said that Egypt continued to exert utmost efforts to communicate with all parties, in order to put an end to the current crisis in Lebanon.

Shoukri said “Lebanon still faces a state of political impasse, stressing the need that further efforts must be exerted by a competent government capable of meeting the needs of the people and achieving important stability in the country and the whole Arab region, including Egypt.”
