The Arab League on Tuesday called for coordinated Arab action to secure international protection for Palestinians, citing rising violence, settlement expansion and worsening conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Fayez Mustafa, the League’s assistant secretary-general for Palestine and the occupied Arab territories, made the call at a meeting of the bloc’s permanent representatives, MENA reported.
He said attacks by Israeli forces and settlers were part of a broader pattern aimed at displacing Palestinians and expanding settlements. He urged the international community to hold those responsible accountable.
Mustafa also called for unimpeded aid deliveries to Gaza, civilian protection and rejection of any forced displacement of Palestinians. He said Gaza was an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory.
The League official reiterated the Arab position in favour of an independent Palestinian state based on the borders before the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, with east Jerusalem as its capital.
He called for practical steps, including greater engagement with the United Nations and other international bodies, and urged countries not to take measures that would alter Jerusalem’s status.
Mustafa said the League’s secretariat would work with Palestinian and Arab officials to mobilise support for Palestinian rights and self-determination.
