Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy condemned attacks by Yemen’s Houthi group targeting Saudi Arabia’s Najran region, which wounded several civilians, the league said.
Fahmy also denounced attacks in recent hours on positions and units belonging to Yemen’s government forces in Marib and Hadramout, which reportedly left people dead and wounded.
“Targeting Saudi territory and endangering civilians, alongside the continued attacks and military escalation in Yemen, represents a highly dangerous course that threatens regional security and stability and undermines prospects for de-escalation and a political settlement,” Fahmy said.
He expressed the Arab League’s “full solidarity” with Saudi Arabia in confronting any attack on its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity, while calling for an end to Houthi attacks and the ongoing escalation in Yemen.
The current phase requires an immediate halt to the escalation and restraint from actions that could widen the conflict, Fahmy said, urging a return to a political process that safeguards Saudi security and Yemen’s stability, unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
