Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit urged Spain to support Palestine’s bid to obtain full member state status at the UN.
This came in a statement issued by the AL on Wednesday during Abul Gheit’s meeting with Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares.
The meeting took up a host of issues of mutual interest along with ways of boosting ties between the pan-Arab body and Spain in the various political, economic and cultural spheres, said Spokesman for the AL secretary general Gamal Roshdy.
The Spanish minister was keen on getting acquainted with Abul Gheit’s viewpoints toward the Palestinian issue, the latest developments in the Libyan crisis along with the repercussions of the Russian-Ukraine crisis at the various fronts, added the spokesman.
The spokesman, meanwhile, said that Albares reviewed the latest developments in his country.
The Spanish minister also hosted a dinner banquet in honour of Abul Gheit, who is currently visiting Spain, added the spokesman.
During the dinner banquet, which was attended by the Arab ambassadors accredited to Spain, Abul Gheit reviewed the AL’s stances towards a host of regional and international issues along with the issues that will be listed on the agenda of the Arab Summit, which will be held in Algeria in November, according to the spokesman.
Abul Gheit also listened to the Arab ambassadors’ viewpoints in this respect, especially the current situation of the Arab-Spanish ties, added the spokesman.
