At least 27 people were killed in two separate mass shootings near South Africa’s two largest cities, police reported Sunday.
According to the South African Police Service, 17 people died Saturday night after gunmen armed with AK-47s and pistols opened fire inside a bar in Wedela township, southwest of Johannesburg.
In a separate incident, 10 people were killed at a store in Lwandle, near Cape Town, in a shooting that occurred around 1 a.m. Sunday, police said.
The attacks came only days after 11 people—including a pregnant woman—were killed at a house party near the eastern coastal city of Durban.
Police said no arrests had been made in either of the latest shootings. Preliminary reports indicated that authorities were searching for multiple suspects in both cases.
