One person was killed and two others injured Thursday after shrapnel from an intercepted Houthi drone fell in Saudi Arabia’s Taif governorate, east of the holy city of Mecca, authorities said.
The Saudi civil defence agency said the shrapnel also damaged several buildings and vehicles.
The person killed was a Yemeni national, while those injured were a Saudi woman and a Pakistani resident, whose condition was critical, the agency said in a statement posted on social media.
The death was the first reported from Houthi fire near Mecca since the accusation.
The Houthis have launched missile and drone attacks this year, with strikes wounding at least 73 people in four southern Saudi cities, according to authorities.
The attacks have also affected Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan’s Eastern Province amid wider regional tensions linked to the war involving Iran.
