PARIS ― WhatsApp has recently announced a notable enhancement for Android users – a search function that allows you to jump to specific dates in your chats, making it more straightforward to locate messages from a particular day.
Recalling what you or someone else said on a specific date can often be like finding a needle in a haystack, especially in lengthy chat histories. This new feature is here to change that.
Start by tapping the contact or group name in a chat to use it. Next, select “Search” and look for the calendar symbol. Its location varies depending on your device.
Android and Mac desktop users will find it next to the search bar at the top, while iOS users will see it above the keyboard on the right side.
Selecting your desired date, the chat will jump to the messages from that day. WhatsApp will take you to the closest available messages if no messages were exchanged on the chosen date.
This intuitive feature promises to make sifting through past conversations a breeze.
Interestingly, this feature isn’t entirely new. It first surfaced in a beta version for the Web, as reported by WABetaInfo in November 2023.
Furthermore, it has been available in non-beta WhatsApp clients on iOS, Mac desktop, and WhatsApp Web. However, its introduction to Android marks a significant extension of its accessibility.
Despite being previously available on other platforms, the arrival of this feature on Android is a significant step forward.
As per HardwareZone’s (HWZ) testing, the feature is already operational on Android phones, though WhatsApp indicates it is still rolling out to all Android devices.
Whether brand new or not, this feature is a welcome addition to WhatsApp’s various functionalities. It proves particularly useful when clarity and accuracy in recalling past messages are crucial.
