Egypt’s military production sector is set to integrate artificial intelligence across its manufacturing lines to develop next-generation weaponry, ammunition, and equipment, the government has announced.

The initiative aims to secure battlefield superiority and ensure the nation’s armed forces keep pace with rapid global advancements in defence technology, according to Salah Gomblat, Minister of State for Military Production.

Speaking exclusively to the Middle East News Agency (MENA), Gomblat revealed that plans are already underway to establish a specialised AI core unit within the ministry-affiliated Toya Technology Company. The new unit will focus on upgrading information systems, advanced data analysis, digital platform management, and streamlining industrial operations.

The minister emphasised that these modernisation efforts align with directives from the political leadership to aggressively boost local manufacturing rates. To achieve this, Egypt is seeking to forge strategic partnerships with leading international defence firms to localise modern military technologies.

“The current phase is one of continuing the path of production and construction,” Gomblat said, noting that the ministry is equally focused on bolstering the national economy.

To spark an industrial leap, the ministry plans to expand its collaboration with the private sector. Furthermore, it will roll out enhanced training and qualification programmes for its workforce in partnership with universities, research centres, and specialised academies.

Gomblat concluded by stressing the ministry’s commitment to strict industrial quality and safety standards, whilst pledging greater delegation of authority within internal departments to accelerate project timelines and encourage grassroots innovation from factory employees.
