Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hendy witnessed on Tuesday the signing and launch of new partnerships between Vodafone Business and Elsewedy Electric, and between Vodafone Business and Kassava Technologies, to establish Africa Data Centre Egypt, one of Egypt’s largest data centers, as well as the country’s first sovereign AI data center.
The partnerships aim to strengthen Egypt’s digital infrastructure, support the localisation of advanced technologies, enhance local data hosting and processing capabilities, and reinforce Egypt’s position as a regional hub for data, cloud services and artificial intelligence.
The Africa Data Centre Egypt project will combine Vodafone Business’ global expertise in cloud and enterprise services, Elsewedy Electric’s capabilities in infrastructure, energy and project execution, and Kassava Technologies’ pan-African data center expertise.
The project targets an initial capacity of 20 megawatts during its first three years, with expansion plans reaching 200 megawatts. It is expected to attract about $200 million in foreign direct investment in its first phase, with total investments projected to reach $1 billion upon completion. The project will also create up to 200 direct and 2,000 indirect jobs.
Meanwhile, the Vodafone Business-Kassava partnership will develop Egypt’s first sovereign AI data center, providing advanced computing capabilities and Nvidia technologies to support large-scale AI applications while ensuring data is hosted and processed locally.
Hendy said the projects reflect growing private-sector confidence in Egypt’s digital economy and support the country’s ambitions to become a regional hub for data, cloud computing and AI.
