AI transparency and literacy efforts expanded across MENA

TikTok has announced new initiatives aimed at helping its community better identify, understand, and engage with AI-generated content, reinforcing the platform’s ongoing commitment to transparency, responsible innovation, and digital literacy.

As artificial intelligence continues to transform the way people create and discover content, TikTok is expanding its efforts to ensure users can confidently navigate AI-powered experiences. The latest updates include new AI literacy resources developed with trusted experts, enhanced systems to detect AI-generated spam, and expanded partnerships to strengthen transparency across the industry.

Building on its existing enforcement efforts—which resulted in the removal of more than 86 million fake accounts during the first quarter of this year—TikTok will begin testing enhanced detection systems designed to identify accounts dedicated to posting AI-generated spam. These efforts will initially focus on content related to areas that could affect public trust or well-being, including politics and current events, financial advice, and medical information.

To date, TikTok has labeled more than three billion AI-generated videos using a combination of Content Credentials, creator disclosure tools, and invisible watermarking technology, giving people greater transparency into the content they see. TikTok is also expanding its leadership in AI transparency by joining the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) Steering Committee. Two years ago, TikTok became the first video platform to implement C2PA Content Credentials, a leading transparency technology that helps people understand when content has been generated or significantly modified using AI. By joining the Steering Committee, TikTok will help advance the adoption of this technology across the industry.

Recognising that education plays a critical role in helping people make informed decisions online, TikTok has partnered with the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) and AI expert Henry Ajder to develop a new educational guide that encourages the responsible use of AI tools. The platform is also introducing new educational resources to help users build practical skills for identifying AI-generated content.

TikTok also continues to invest in expert-led initiatives that promote AI literacy and responsible AI use. Through partnerships with organisations including No Filtr and Raspberry Pi, educational content has generated more than 200 million views since the program launched in November 2025. To date, TikTok has committed more than US$4 million to support these initiatives and will continue expanding their reach and impact.

Alongside education, TikTok is strengthening its efforts to protect the integrity of content on the platform. While AI continues to unlock new creative opportunities for creators, it can also be misused to mass-produce spam that overwhelms authentic content.

Across the MENA region, creators are increasingly embracing AI as a tool for storytelling, education, and creative expression. From developing original visual content to experimenting with new production techniques, creators are demonstrating how AI can unlock new opportunities while using these technologies responsibly. TikTok continues to support this creativity by investing in AI tools such as Smart Split and AI Outline, alongside features like Manage Topics, which give people greater control over how much AI-generated content they see.

As AI continues to evolve, TikTok remains committed to working with industry experts, educators, and partners across the Middle East and globally to promote AI literacy, strengthen trust and transparency, and create a safe environment where communities can confidently create, discover, and connect.
