Ismailia is preparing to host a major global sporting event as the World Junior Weightlifting Championship officially kicks off this Saturday, May 2.
The opening ceremony is scheduled to begin at 5:30 PM, featuring a programme that blends authentic Egyptian heritage with a sophisticated, modern flair.
The organizing committee has designed the event to be both elegant and innovative, focusing on high-quality entertainment to welcome international delegations and celebrate the host city’s unique identity.
The ceremony will showcase a variety of performances, starting with a traditional Semsemia show.
This folk music is deeply rooted in Ismailia’s history and represents the cultural spirit of the Suez Canal region.
To contrast this traditional element, the event will also feature high-tech light displays and exciting fire shows, creating a visually stunning experience for the audience.
The evening’s programme will be rounded out by a live saxophone performance, adding a touch of artistic diversity that bridges the gap between classic and contemporary styles.
Led by Mohamed Abdel Maqsoud, President of the Egyptian Weightlifting Federation and member of the International Federation’s Executive Board, the organizing committee aims to demonstrate Egypt’s superior capability in hosting world-class tournaments. The championship has drawn significant international attention and is expected to be one of the most successful editions to date.
