Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi, now on a visit to Japan, met on Sunday the President of the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Seiko Hashimoto.
The president of the games Organising Committee welcomed the Egyptian minister who arrived in Tokyo to offer support to Egyptian players and teams participating in the games.
She especially praised Egyptian interest in women’s sports.
This is manifest, she said, in the number of female athletes participating in the Olympics within the Egyptian delegation.
She invited attention to what she described as the ‘great role’ Egypt played in sports on the international scene, especially with its success in hosting the Handball World Cup, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.
She commended Egypt for strictly applying precautionary measures during the competition, including the medical bubble idea.
These measures, she said, protected the health of the players participating in the championship, which offered a ray of hope that paved the road for holding international tournaments everywhere in the world, including the ongoing Olympic Games.
Minister Sobhi, for his part, expressed sincere wishes for the Tokyo Organising Committee to succeed in its mission during the current championship.
He praised the measures the committee is taking to protect the health of players and teams participating in the competition.
These measures accentuate the superiority of the Organising Committee as far as the organisation of the world’s largest sports event is concerned, the minister said.
Minister Sobhi also met a group of Olympic Games volunteers.
He addressed them about the experiences of Egyptian youth who volunteered in organising international sports competitions in Egypt.
Youth volunteers are one of the main pillars of success for any sports event, the minister said.
