CAIRO — Minister of Youth and Sports Gohar Nabil congratulated Egypt’s national football team and its technical staff following the team’s 3-1 victory over New Zealand in their second Group G match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The minister praised the historic achievement, describing it as Egypt’s first-ever victory in World Cup history. He commended the outstanding and determined performance of the players, as well as the efforts of the technical staff led by Coach Hossam Hassan, who became the first Egyptian head coach to lead the national team to a World Cup victory.
Nabil also highlighted the continued support provided by the political leadership for the national team. He noted that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi had directed that all necessary resources be made available and any obstacles removed to support the team’s World Cup campaign.
The minister further congratulated Chairman of the Egyptian Football Association Hany Abo Rida and its board, who are currently accompanying the team to support its World Cup journey, on the landmark victory.
Egypt secured a 3-1 win over New Zealand earlier on Monday in a match widely described as a memorable and historic performance that will remain etched in the minds of Egyptian fans.
With the victory, Egypt moved to the top of Group G with four points.
