The Russian Embassy in Cairo has offered its congratulations to the Egyptian national football team following their 1-0 victory over Russia in a friendly match on Thursday.
In a sportsmanlike statement released on Friday, the embassy conceded that the Egyptian side thoroughly deserved their hard-fought win, while expressing hope that the Russian team would bounce back in future fixtures.
The match drew strong international backing in the stands, with the embassy noting that around 2,000 fans turned out to cheer on the visitors. The traveling support included embassy staff members alongside a large contingent of Russian nationals currently residing in Egypt.
