SKOPJE — Egypt’s table tennis duo Omar Assar and Hana Gouda advanced to the quarter-finals of the Macedonia Star Contender tournament, being held from June 1 to 7, in the mixed doubles competition.
The Egyptian pair secured their place in the last eight after defeating the French duo of Jules Rolland and Prithika Pavade 3-1 in the main draw round of 16.
Assar and Gouda will face the Croatian pair of Ivor Ban and Hana Arapovic in the quarterfinals.
The Egyptian duo had reached the main draw after overcoming one French pair and another from Hong Kong by a score of 3-2 in the qualifying rounds.
In the men’s singles event, Assar is set to face a Spanish player who advanced from the qualifiers in the main draw round of 32 later on Thursday.
In the women’s singles competition, Gouda will take on an American player in the main draw round of 32.
In men’s doubles, the Egyptian pair of Youssef Abdel Aziz and Mohamed el Beiali will face a Slovenian duo in the main draw round of 16.
