In a historic celebration of athletic achievement, Dr Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, recently honored the Egyptian women’s youth handball and basketball national teams for their groundbreaking victories at the African Championships.
Both teams secured their respective titles for the first time in history, marking a significant milestone for Egyptian sports.
The Minister’s address praised the players’ exceptional spirit and determination, emphasising that their success not only brings honor to Egypt but also showcases the strength and resolve of its female athletes.
He highlighted that these unprecedented achievements are the result of continuous planning and dedicated effort, signaling a new era of success for women’s sports in the country.

The celebration underscored a broader commitment to building on these successes. Minister Sobhi reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting athletes, both male and female, by providing a robust sports infrastructure, including world-class facilities and training programs.
He noted that the victories have created a positive wave of enthusiasm across the nation, inspiring young people and families to engage in sports.
The Minister also revealed plans to leverage these achievements to rebuild and strengthen Egyptian basketball, following the established path of success set by the Handball Federation.

Federation leaders at the event, including Captain Khaled Fathy of the Handball Federation and Dr Amr Moselhy of the Basketball Federation, expressed their profound gratitude and pride.
They both acknowledged the pivotal role of the state’s support and the Minister’s personal involvement in securing these historic wins. The presidents highlighted that these championships are not just trophies but symbols of hard work and a clear vision for the future, promising that more achievements are on the horizon for Egyptian sports.
