CAIRO — Egyptian taekwondo star Seif Eissa continued his impressive run of success, capturing the gold medal in the men’s +87kg event at the Bosnia Open Taekwondo Championships, just days after claiming gold at the European Clubs and National Teams Championships in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Eissa opened his campaign with a convincing 2-0 victory over a Russian opponent in the round of 16 to advance to the quarter-finals.
He maintained his dominant form by defeating a competitor from North Macedonia 2-0 in the quarterfinals before overcoming a Slovenian rival by the same score in the semifinals to secure a place in the final.
The Egyptian Olympian capped off his remarkable performance by defeating a Cypriot athlete 2-0 in the final, securing the gold medal without conceding a single round throughout the tournament.
Speaking after the victory, Eissa expressed his delight at winning the title, describing the achievement as an important milestone in his preparations for upcoming competitions.
He thanked the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Egyptian Olympic Committee, the Egyptian Taekwondo Federation, the National Bank of Egypt, Misr Insurance, the technical and administrative staff, and his teammates for their continued support.
Eissa dedicated the gold medal to Egyptian fans, praising their unwavering backing of the national team at various international events.
Looking ahead, he said his focus will be on further developing his technical and physical abilities in preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, with the goal of returning to the podium at major international and Olympic competitions.
Eissa is one of Egypt’s most accomplished taekwondo athletes, having won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games, one of the country’s most significant achievements in the sport at the Olympic level.
