Four medals, two African records and a talented new generation made the 15th African Archery Championships a memorable campaign for Egypt. The team’s success in Oran reflected the continued progress of Egyptian archery and its growing strength across Africa.

Golden finish

With three gold medals and one silver, Egypt enjoyed successful outing at the African Championships, strengthening its standing among the continent’s leading archery nations.

The first gold came through the under-18 mixed team of Ismail Ezz El-Din and Nouray El-Sayed, who produced a commanding performance to claim the continental title.

Ezz El-Din then added a second gold in the under-18 boys’ individual event, while El-Sayed completed Egypt’s golden haul by winning the under-18 girls’ individual title.

In the senior competition, Bahaa Ali secured the silver medal in the men’s recurve individual event, rounding off a highly successful campaign for the Egyptian squad.

Record breakers

Egypt’s success in Oran extended far beyond the medal table.

Rising star Ismail Ezz El-Din rewrote the African record books in the under-18 individual event, posting an outstanding score of 650 points to establish a new continental benchmark.

The record-breaking theme did not end there. Ezz El-Din and Nouray El-Sayed set a new African under-18 mixed team record, scoring 1,258 points.

Official backing

Minister of Youth and Sports Gohar Nabil congratulated the Egyptian team, praising the athletes for their outstanding performances throughout the championships.

Nabil also reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting national federations and teams as they pursue for more success at both African and international competitions.

A bright future

The campaign in Algeria was about more than a place on the podium. It reflected the steady development of Egyptian archery and the growing strength of the national programme.

With a talented group of young athletes coming through, Egypt is well placed to build on this success at future African and international competitions.
