Egypt’s national handball team has won the gold medal at the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Italy.
The team beat Greece 31–29 in a close final match.
Egypt played very well throughout the entire tournament without losing a single game.
In the group stage, they won all three of their matches against Portugal, Kosovo, and Italy. They then reached the final by beating Algeria 27–25 in a tight semifinal match.
With this win, Egypt has earned 39 medals so far at this year’s Games – 13 gold, 13 silver, and 13 bronze. This makes Egypt the top-performing Arab nation at the event.
More than 3,800 athletes from 26 countries are taking part in the Mediterranean Games this year in Taranto. Historically, Egypt is one of the most successful countries in the event’s history, with over 600 total medals.
