TANGIER, Morocco — In anticipation of the highly-anticipated final of the CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Egypt’s U-23 head coach, Rogerio Micale, has expressed his team’s unwavering determination to defend their title.

The clash is set to take place at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Saturday at 11:00pm Cairo Local Time, with hosts Morocco standing in their way.

Both finalists have showcased exceptional performances throughout the tournament, remaining undefeated in their respective journeys to the final.

Notably, Egypt’s defending champions have taken their excellence a step further by not conceding a single goal thus far.

However, Micale remains cognizant of the formidable challenge posed by the Moroccan team.

“They possess formidable attackers who are lethal in front of goal. I genuinely believe that we will face a tactical approach that we have yet to encounter in this tournament,” remarked Micale, who previously won an Olympic gold medal with Brazil in 2016.

Micale stressed the importance of managing emotions and maintaining focus in the face of an electrifying atmosphere.

“We are motivated to retain the title. Although the stadium will be filled against us, it is in these complex situations that the most glorious victories are forged,” stated the coach.

He expressed confidence in his team’s ability to handle the pressure, emphasizing that his players are consummate professionals.

Having joined as Egypt’s U-23 coach on August 5th, 2022, Micale has brought his wealth of experience in coaching youth teams in Brazil to the Egyptian side.

He drew parallels between the players from both nations, highlighting the immense talent present in the Egyptian squad.

Micale extended his wishes for some of his players to earn a place in the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire 2023, believing they deserve the opportunity.

Meanwhile, Egyptian captain Ibrahim Adel conveyed the team’s unwavering motivation to emerge victorious.

“These types of matches send shivers down my spine. The coach need not deliver lengthy speeches as our motivation is already sky-high,” affirmed Adel. He acknowledged the challenging atmosphere that awaits, with Morocco enjoying home advantage.

As anticipation mounts for the highly-anticipated final, fans are eagerly anticipating a thrilling clash between two exceptional teams.

The stage is set for an enthralling battle to determine the champions of the CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations.
