CAIRO — The Egyptian U-17 national team, led by coach Hussein Abdel Latif, delivered a resilient and determined performance to claim a vital 1-0 win over Tunisia in their opening fixture of the Union of North African Football U-17 AFCON qualifying campaign on Friday in Benghazi, Libya.

The tournament, running through April 5, features North Africa’s five contenders – Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and hosts Libya – competing in an intense round-robin format where consistency and resilience are key.

Only three teams get to qualify for the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations – and from there, earn a shot at the FIFA U-17 World Cup. Every game counts.

Egypt now shifts focus to a crucial clash against Morocco on March 30. After that, they’ll meet Libya on April 2 and wrap up their campaign against Algeria on April 5.

The encounter against Tunisia was a tactically demanding battle. Young Pharaohs’ Daniel Tamer made the breakthrough early, calmly converting a penalty in the 14th minute.
