CAIRO — Egypt’s Special Olympics is set to host national competitions in open water swimming and triathlon on Wednesday at 6th of October Sporting Club, as part of preparations for the 2026 regional special Olympic games in Tunisia.
The event will include broad participation from across Egypt, with 24 sports bodies and 102 athletes competing—including 19 in triathlon and 46 in open water events—alongside 37 coaches and staff, reflecting growing inclusion through sports.
National Director at Egypt’s Special Olympics Bassem Tohamy said the event is part of a strategic plan to enhance performance and expand competitive opportunities, adding that it is an important step toward the upcoming regional games.
He emphasised that Egypt’s Special Olympics continues to provide a strong sporting environment to develop athletes’ skills and maintain the country’s leading position regionally and internationally.
