The Egyptian national football team defeated Ethiopia with a score of 2-0 in their World Cup qualifying match at Cairo International Stadium.
The goals were scored by team captain Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush, both from penalty kicks.
This victory earns the Pharaohs three points, bringing their total to 19 and solidifying their lead at the top of their group.
With this win, Egypt is now five points ahead of their closest competitor, Burkina Faso.
A win in their upcoming match against Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou next Tuesday would secure Egypt’s direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
Following the match, Dr Ashraf Sobhi, the Minister of Youth and Sports, congratulated the players and technical staff on their victory.
Engineer Hany Abo Rida, President of the Egyptian Football Association, also attended the match and was present for the post-game meeting.

“The victory brings us closer to qualifying for the World Cup, and we are confident of securing qualification early to please the Egyptian fans,” Sobhi stated.
He also expressed his happiness with the team’s performance, noting that they are now one step closer to their goal.
Sobhi emphasised his full confidence in the players and their ability to win the next match, which would ensure the team’s qualification for the World Cup for the fourth time in its history.
