Egypt opened the 2026 Rifle and Pistol Shooting World Cup, with around 600 athletes from 50 countries competing at the Egypt International Olympic City in the New Capital.
The competition runs from October 8 to 20 and is among the major events on the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) calendar.
Youth and Sports Minister Gohar Nabil said hosting the event reflected Egypt’s sports infrastructure and ability to organise major international competitions. He said such events could raise Egypt’s profile in international sport and support sports tourism.
ISSF President Luciano Rossi praised the development of shooting in Egypt and thanked the government and the Egyptian Shooting Federation for organising the tournament.
Hazem Hosny, head of the Egyptian Shooting Federation and the African Shooting Confederation, welcomed the participating delegations and said hosting the World Cup showcased Egypt’s organisational experience and its efforts to develop the sport.
