ALGIERS — Egypt’s national canoe and kayak team wrapped up the first day of the African Championships in Boumerdes, Algeria, with five medals — three golds and two bronzes — in the 1,000-metre races.
The championships, hosted by Algeria from Oct. 8 to 13, feature a number of African national teams.
Mohamed Khaled won gold in the under-23 category, while Mohamed Tarek claimed under-23 gold and bronze in the senior canoe competition.
Ahmed Khalil secured gold in the junior kayak event, while Ali Ahmed added a bronze in the junior canoe competition.
The medals were presented by International Canoe Federation President Thomas Konietzko and African Canoe Confederation President Joao Manuel, in the presence of African federation members, heads of committees at the international federation and heads of delegations participating in the championships.
The national team roster includes Karim Emad, Mohamed Khaled, Mohamed Tarek, Hamza Ayman, Omar Bassem, Abdel Hamid Walid, Youssef Gaber, Ahmed Khalil, Mahmoud Gouda, Adam Gomaa, Ali Abdel Morsy, Farah Howaidi, Jana Morsi, Jana Awad, Asmaa Asaad, Mariam Gomaa and Menatallah Baha El-Din.
