EL-ALAMEIN – Thousands of Egyptian fans gathered outside the main gate of El-Alamein Airport on Friday to welcome the national football team upon its return from the United States after a historic 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
Supporters from across different age groups waved Egyptian flags and displayed banners featuring images of national team players and the coaching staff.
Many fans wore Egypt’s No. 10 jersey, honoring team captain and international star Mohamed Salah.
Women supporters celebrated the team’s arrival with traditional “zaghrouta” ululations, expressing their pride in the Pharaohs’ memorable World Cup journey, which saw Egypt reach the knockout stage for the first time in its history.
Egypt’s campaign ended in the Round of 16 following a dramatic 3-2 defeat to defending champions Argentina, with the Pharaohs conceding two late goals after holding a 2-0 lead until the 79th minute.
An open-top bus was prepared to transport the team through the streets of El Alamein, allowing fans to celebrate alongside the players. Supporters began arriving in New Alamein City early Friday morning to take part in the welcoming festivities.
The celebration comes in recognition of the national team’s impressive performance at the tournament, where the Pharaohs produced strong displays against some of the world’s leading sides and achieved historic milestones at both team and individual levels.
The parade offers fans an opportunity to honor the players for restoring Egyptian football to the global spotlight and delivering a memorable World Cup campaign defined by determination, competitiveness, and a fighting spirit.
