The Egyptian national football team secured a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over Russia on Thursday night at the Cairo International Stadium, as part of their final preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
In a tightly contested international friendly, both teams struggled to break the deadlock in the first half, heading into the interval at 0-0.
The breakthrough came in the 64th minute when substitute Mostafa Mohamed (Zico) capitalized on a brilliant assist from right-back Mohamed Hany, firing the ball past Russian goalkeeper Stanislav Agkatsev to send the home crowd into a frenzy.
Russia pushed hard for an equalizer late in the game, but Egypt’s backline, anchored by defensive stability and smart substitutions, held firm to secure a clean sheet.
This victory provides a massive confidence boost for Egypt before they fly out to the United States for their final warm-up fixture against Brazil, ahead of their World Cup Group G opener against Belgium on June 15.
