Sphinx International Airport recently welcomed a high-level delegation of European diplomats for an inspection tour aimed at evaluating the airport’s advanced infrastructure and operational capabilities. The visit comes at a crucial time, as Egypt prepares for the much-anticipated opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, reinforcing the airport’s strategic role in facilitating inbound tourism.

The diplomatic delegation was received by senior officials, including Pilot Wael El-Nashar, Chairman of the Egyptian Airports Company; Major General Wael Talaat, Director of the General Administration of Port Security; and Major General Ashraf Khalaf, Director of Sphinx International Airport. The tour encompassed a comprehensive review of key airport facilities, such as the departure and arrival halls, as well as an assessment of passenger services, all of which adhere to the highest international standards.

The visiting delegation comprised consuls from multiple European nations, including Poland, Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Spain, and Sweden. Following their inspection, the diplomats expressed their admiration for the airport’s state-of-the-art infrastructure and the commitment to delivering a seamless, safe travel experience.

The delegation underscored the significance of Sphinx International Airport as a transformative addition to Egypt’s civil aviation sector. Its prime location—situated near the iconic Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum—positions it as a key entry point for international tourists, further strengthening Egypt’s appeal as a global cultural and historical destination.

Moreover, the diplomats acknowledged that the airport’s modern facilities and strategic positioning will enhance air connectivity between Egypt and Europe, aligning with the growing demand for tourism-related air travel.

In this regard, Dr. Sameh El-Hefny, Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s aviation sector. He highlighted that Sphinx International Airport is part of a broader strategic vision to bolster Egypt’s global air links, particularly in light of its proximity to major archaeological landmarks. The Ministry, he noted, is implementing an ambitious development plan to modernize Egyptian airports in line with international standards, ultimately improving the travel experience and boosting inbound tourism.

Dr. El-Hefny further emphasized that the upcoming inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum is set to be a transformative event for global tourism, drawing millions of visitors from around the world. To accommodate this expected surge in tourist arrivals, Egypt is investing in a robust aviation infrastructure, with Sphinx International Airport playing a pivotal role. With its strategic location and cutting-edge facilities, the airport is poised to serve as a primary gateway for travelers eager to explore Egypt’s rich cultural heritage.
