Chairman of the Egyptian Airports Company, Pilot Wael el-Nashar, has recently completed a comprehensive field tour of Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh International Airports.
The visits were meant to inspect ongoing development projects, review execution quality, and ensure everything remains on schedule.
These upgrades are part of a broader strategy to boost airport capacity, raise operational efficiency, and smoothly accommodate the continuous growth in Egypt’s travel and tourism sectors.
During his visit to Hurghada International Airport, el-Nashar reviewed several major infrastructure improvements.
He checked the progress of the new baggage handling system at Terminal 1 and inspected the newly completed first phase of the check-in area, which now features 24 new operational counters to speed up passenger processing.
Additionally, he followed up on renovations to the main runway, the ongoing development of the taxiways, and roof upgrades at Terminal 2, all aimed to boost the airport’s infrastructure for future air traffic.
The tour continued at Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport, where el-Nashar evaluated key airfield enhancements.
These included the completed first phase of aircraft parking pavement rehabilitation and the main runway upgrade project.
He also reviewed final preparations for the upcoming opening of a new aircraft parking apron on July 15th, an addition that will significantly expand the airport’s capacity to host more flights.
Throughout the inspections, el-Nashar emphasised that project timelines must be met without compromising on the highest standards of safety and quality.
He highlighted that true modernisation goes beyond physical infrastructure; it is fundamentally about improving day-to-day operational systems and elevating the passenger experience. Ultimately, these on-site evaluations ensure that Egyptian airports continue to align with top international standards and effectively support the nation’s booming tourism industry.
