Chairman of the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation Engineer Mohamed Saeed Mahrous congratulated the employees of the Cairo Airport Company on the occasion of the 59th anniversary of its official opening, specifically on May 18, 1963, praising the efforts of the workers at Cairo International Airport during those long years in preserving Egypt’s first gate and its civilised front.
Mahrous added that Cairo International Airport, since its official opening, has witnessed many development operations. The airport’s capacity has increased from 5 million passengers annually when the first building was opened in 1963 to more than 28 million passengers annually at the present time, thus occupying a distinguished position on the airports map.
This comes especially in the Middle East and Africa, in terms of the volume of traffic and the services it provides to passengers and airlines.
He added that Cairo International Airport has become one of the most important airports in the region, as it is a pivotal airport that links transit traffic between East and West, and is the gateway to the African continent.
Addressing the staff, Mahrous said that the celebration of the anniversary of the opening of Cairo International Airport is a symbol of the achievements that have been made in all Egyptian airports in recent years, not just Cairo International Airport.
