Hefny sends message to employees affirming support, overcoming all obstacles 11 - Egyptian Gazette

By Mohamed Attia

Pilot Sameh El-Hefny, the newly-appointed Minister of Civil Aviation, has opened several significant files upon assuming office. At the forefront is the continued modernisation of the national airline, EgyptAir. The airline’s fleet is expected to reach a total of 108 aircraft by the end of 2026, up from the current 80 aircraft, which include 42 Boeing models.

Another critical issue for the minister is the swift delivery of the first eco-friendly building at Borg El Arab International Airport. Additionally, the completion of the development of Hurghada, St. Catherine, and Taba airports is a priority, along with the rapid implementation of the first eco-friendly terminal at Cairo International Airport to increase its capacity.

The new minister also aims to boost low-cost aviation activity through Air Cairo, the domestic airline. El-Hefny is set to activate the aerial taxi plan to facilitate affordable flights between domestic airports, thereby promoting domestic tourism to various tourist attractions.

A crucial matter that cannot be overlooked is the reduction of carbon emissions in aviation. This is a vital issue at the international level, with the goal of achieving zero emissions to combat climate change.

Sameh El-Hefny sent a message to employees upon taking office, extending heartfelt thanks and appreciation to former Minister of Civil Aviation, Pilot Mohamed Abbas Helmy, for his dedicated efforts. El-Hefny affirmed that Helmy’s vision and diligent work are the foundation upon which he will continue to build and wished him success in his future endeavors.

In his message, El-Hefny expressed pride in being a part of the esteemed aviation sector. His 37-year journey in civil aviation has deepened his understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the industry and how to leverage them for advancement. He emphasised to ministry employees that commitment to excellence will be the driving force for success and distinction. El-Hefny pointed out that dedication, professionalism, and skill are the keys to achieving this success and excellence, with employees being the main element for the sector’s progress.

El-Hefny also urged employees to continue working and advancing the development process, expressing his strong confidence in their efforts in the coming period. He pledged his support to overcome any obstacles they may face, aiming to elevate the Egyptian civil aviation system.
