Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation, Sameh El-Hefny, Chairman of the current session of the General Assembly of the Arab Civil Aviation Organisation (ACAO), has underscored the organisation’s pivotal role in strengthening Arab co-operation in civil aviation.
He called for intensified efforts to develop unified visions on emerging issues in line with regional and international developments in the aviation industry.
The remarks came during a meeting on Friday with ACAO Director General Khalid Cherkaoui, attended by Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority President Sameh Fawzy and several organisation officials.
The meeting reviewed ways to advance joint Arab action in civil aviation and discussed a number of priority issues facing the sector in the coming period.
It was held on the sidelines of El-Hefny’s participation in the Marrakech Air Show 2026 in Morocco.
Discussions focused on training, professional qualification, and the development of human and technical capabilities, as well as opportunities to benefit from advanced international expertise to help member states keep pace with the rapid evolution of the aviation industry.
El-Hefny said Egypt would continue, during its presidency of the current General Assembly session, to support ACAO’s initiatives and programmes aimed at meeting member states’ needs, enhancing the standing of Arab civil aviation, and strengthening its ability to adapt to rapid industry transformations.
For his part, Cherkaoui highlighted Egypt’s support for the organisation’s work and praised the country’s specialised expertise, which he said could be leveraged across various areas of civil aviation.
He reaffirmed ACAO’s commitment to continued co-operation with member states to advance its programmes and enhance its capacity to address shared priorities.
The meeting concluded with both sides stressing the importance of ongoing consultation and co-ordination on issues of mutual interest to serve member states’ interests and promote joint Arab co-operation in civil aviation.
