Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister Sameh El-Hefny met with Madagascar’s Minister of Transport and Meteorology, Mana Mbahoaka Valérie, to explore ways to enhance bilateral co-operation in civil aviation between Egypt and Madagascar.
The discussions focused on a request from Madagascar to activate and amend the existing bilateral air transport agreement, as well as exploring the possibility of launching a direct air route between Egypt and Madagascar. Officials believe such a route could stimulate tourism and increase trade between the two nations, in addition to strengthening ties through the transfer of Egyptian expertise in areas such as maintenance, infrastructure, and airport development.
El-Hefny praised the strong relationship between Egypt and Madagascar, emphasising Egypt’s commitment to supporting Madagascar’s aviation sector. He highlighted Egypt’s willingness to share technical expertise and provide regional training that could help advance Madagascar’s aviation capabilities.
To facilitate the agreement, El-Hefny directed Egyptian and Malagasy authorities to schedule a bilateral meeting to discuss potential amendments to the air transport deal, aiming for mutual benefits.
Madagascar’s Transport Minister, Valérie, commended the productive talks, noting the importance of Egypt’s role within the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) since assuming its chairmanship from Madagascar. He expressed appreciation for Egypt’s ongoing efforts in bolstering economic and trade links within the region, especially through sharing its substantial expertise in aviation with African partners.
