The Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) has participated in the international FIRE Project, which aims to improve aircraft firefighting and fire protection systems at three Egyptian airports through international co-operation and support programmes.
The authority has continued coordinating with the relevant entities to complete the necessary procedures to benefit from a non-refundable international grant allocated for this purpose.

The second meeting of the FIRE Project Steering Committee was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, with the participation of representatives from the five African countries involved in the project.
Egypt was represented at the meeting by Captain Karim Gamil, Advisor to the Head of the Civil Aviation Authority, Director of International Agreements, and the project’s National Focal Point.

The meeting discussed the project’s implementation mechanisms, upcoming work plans, and ways for participating countries to benefit from international funding and technical support programmes. It also provided an opportunity to exchange expertise in developing aircraft firefighting systems and improving environmental and operational safety standards at airports.
The FIRE Project, which focuses on developing environmentally responsible firefighting infrastructure, is supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), in co-operation with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). The project aims to support development efforts in the five participating African countries.
