By Mohamed Attia

Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El Hefny conducted an inspection tour of Borg El Arab International Airport, accompanied by Ahmed Mansour, Chairman of the Egyptian Airports Company. Upon arrival, they were welcomed by Ahmed Sharaf, the airport’s director.

The visit aimed to assess the airport’s readiness for the gradual transition of flights from Terminal 1 to the new Terminal 2, and to review the quality of services provided to passengers. The new terminal, designed with the latest global technology, is Egypt’s first eco-friendly airport facility.

During the tour, Minister El Hefny checked on passenger flows through the departure and arrival halls, passport control counters, baggage handling areas, and VIP lounges to ensure smooth operations. He also reviewed the final preparations to guarantee the highest standards of security and comfort for passengers. The minister inspected security procedures, including checks at the airport’s outer fences and entry and exit gates.

El Hefny then visited the air traffic control tower and radar building, where he was received by Captain Ahmed El Ashram, General Manager of Air Navigation at the airport. He praised the professionalism of the air traffic controllers, noting the high volume of air traffic expected in the coming days, particularly with the upcoming Egypt International Aviation and Space Show, which will increase operations at Cairo, Borg El Arab, and Alamein airports.

The minister also reviewed the facilities at the Terminal 1 arrivals and departures halls. He emphasized the need for continued collaboration between all stakeholders at the airport to address any potential issues that might disrupt the flow of passengers. He further stressed the importance of simultaneously upgrading the old terminal alongside the new one.

El Hefny reaffirmed that the ministry prioritizes completing development projects to enhance the passenger experience and improve operational efficiency across Egypt’s airports. This focus aligns with the state’s broader efforts to upgrade airport infrastructure and provide high-quality services to visitors from around the world.
