An Egyptian civil aviation delegation recently visited Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon, to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cameroonian authorities.
The agreement aims to strengthen bilateral ties, improve aviation infrastructure, and lay the groundwork for a direct flight route between Cairo and Yaoundé to boost regional trade and tourism.

This visit builds directly upon momentum from the “Aviation Week for Africa and the Indian Ocean” hosted in Cairo last July, as well as earlier high-level talks with Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority Director General Paule Assoumou Koki.
During the meetings, both parties discussed Cameroon’s operational priorities across several core areas.

The bilateral discussions covered aircraft airworthiness, maintenance standards, flight operations, air navigation systems, airport development, search and rescue, emergency management, and updated regulations.
The talks also focused on licensing standards for pilots, aircrew, and technical personnel.

To address these needs, the partnership will leverage Egyptian expertise by sending specialists to Cameroon and hosting Cameroonian personnel in Egypt for customised training programmes.
The official delegation representing Egypt was comprised of Civil Aviation Authority Head Sameh Mohamed Fawzy, Director General of Technical Inspection Engineer Mohamed Kamal Al-Mutairi, and Director General of the Technical Office Rania Hammad.
They were accompanied on the ground by Egyptian Ambassador to Cameroon Marwa Hegazy and Egyptian Consul Ahmed El-Sawy.

The initialed agreement sets a clear framework for executing tailored technical and operational programmes between the two nations. Beyond training and airport efficiency enhancements, both countries are actively working toward launching the proposed Cairo–Yaoundé direct air link.
Civil Aviation Authority Head Captain Sameh Fawzy re-affirmed Egypt’s commitment to providing targeted technical support and emphasised the importance of rolling out concrete action plans in the coming phase.
