Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Abbas held a series of meetings, on the sidelines of his participation in the 54th edition of the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget.

A number of representatives of major world aviation companies took part in the event, which will end on June 25.

Minister Abbas held a meeting with officials of the Rolls-Royce Company specialised in the manufacture and maintenance of aircraft engines.

The meeting witnessed the signing of a comprehensive maintenance contract for Trent 700 engines of EgyptAir aircraft. The contract is an extension of the close co-operation between the two sides since 2003.

This made Rolls-Royce a major partner to EgyptAir in the field of aircraft engine maintenance.

The move supports the global position of EgyptAir Maintenance and Engineering and makes it a leading regional and strategic centre, offering the highest maintenance and overhaul services for aircraft engines around the world.

Minister Abbas also met the CEOs of Boeing and Airbus and discussed means to expand the fleet of the national company, EgyptAir, in co-operation with the largest international aircraft manufacturers.

This came in line with the modernisation plan pursued by EgyptAir in order to expand its airline network.

The minister and his accompanying delegation also held a series of meetings with representatives of General Electric and CFM to discuss means to improve the capabilities of EgyptAir Maintenance and Technical Services as well as Collins Aerospace, which is specialised in aircraft seats and electronic systems.

Minister Abbas also held talks with French Minister of Transport Clément Beaune, and French Minister of the Environment Christophe Béchu to boost aspects of co-operation between Egypt and France in various air transport activities.

During his participation in the Paris Air Show, Minister Abbas met with senior officials from the French Thales Group, specialising in the latest technologies in the field of civil aviation, the manufacture of innovative electronic equipment and the development of satellite communication systems. The two sides discussed means to enhance co-operation ties with EgyptAir in a bid to improve services provided to passengers.

He also held discussions with officials of Panasonic Avionics Corporation, a world leader in inflight entertainment and Wi-Fi satellite communications systems, providing digital services for inflight entertainment.

Minister Abbas met senior officials of Safran Group, a high-tech international group that designs aircraft interiors, manufactures engines, entertainment systems, and satellite communications.

Air Cairo and Airbus signed a co-operation protocol, on the fringes of the 54th edition of the Paris Air Show, currently held in the Le Bourget Parc des Expositions.

The protocol was aimed to exchange spare parts for A320 aircraft in all destinations to which AirCairo operates its flights to ensure regular operation and overcome the shortage in the supply of spare parts around the world.

Minister Abbas confirmed that these meetings came in light of developing horizons of co-operation with major international institutions and leading global companies in the field of aircraft industry and advanced aviation systems.

Abbas stressed the importance of his ministry’s participation in the international event to promote co-operation with world companies in the aviation technology domains and expertise exchange.

He added that Egypt announced weeks ago the launch of the first edition of Egypt Air Show in May 2024 at El-Alamein International Airport with the participation of pioneers in the fields of defence, military and aviation industries and space technology in the world. The minister also stressed the importance of participating in such exhibitions specialised in aviation and space, bringing about effective endeavours through the conclusion of promising partnerships with major international aircraft and engine maintenance companies.

This move is meant to develop the quality of services provided to customers according to the latest technologies and innovations in the world.

The Paris Air Show brings together all the stakeholders from the aviation industry around the latest technological innovations. The air show attracts every two years more than 300,000 visitors and around 2,500 exhibitors.
