Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reviewed on Thursday the key themes and discussion points of two sessions scheduled for the Egypt 2026 Forum, entitled “Egypt’s Energy Journey” and “A More Effective Social Protection System”.
Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk, and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi attended the meeting.
SIS chairman highlights youth role in building awareness
Chairman of the State Information Service (SIS) Ambassador Alaa Youssef met on Thursday with a delegation from the Tahya Misr Youth Union to discuss co-operation on programmes aimed at reaching wider segments of young people, opening channels for dialogue, and strengthening their ability to critically assess information amid rapid developments in the digital environment.
The meeting reflects the SIS’s efforts to promote young people as active partners in building awareness, highlighting the Egyptian state’s efforts and achievements, and advancing digital literacy.
Defence chief witnesses main phase of chemical warfare command centres project
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defence and Military Production Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher on Thursday witnessed the main phase of the project to implement specialised strategic tactical command centres for chemical warfare management, conducted through video-conferencing technology.
The exercise, which continued for several days, was attended by Chief-of-Staff of the Armed Forces Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, commanders of the Armed Forces’ main branches, a number of senior military commanders, and commanders of field armies and military areas participating remotely from their respective locations.
Egypt condemns Israeli settlers’ storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque
The Arab Republic of Egypt strongly condemns the storming of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque by hundreds of Israeli settlers, accompanied by provocative acts and the performance of religious rituals inside its courtyards, in violation of the established historical and legal status quo governing the holy site.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, Egypt warns of the serious consequences of the continued and escalating incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque, particularly as they take place against the backdrop of ongoing settlement activities and provocative statements, as well as attempts to alter the existing status quo and impose a new reality within the Mosque compound, known as Al-Haram Al-Sharif.
Eritrea says it severs diplomatic ties with Ethiopia
Eritrea’s foreign ministry said on Thursday that it was severing all diplomatic ties with Ethiopia.
Addis Ababa has accused countries including Eritrea of supporting an opposition alliance led by the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) that has fought with troops loyal to Ethiopia’s federal government since last week. Eritrea denies the accusation.
‘Houthis target power station serving Prophet’s Mosque’
Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi militia carried out a drone attack on a power distribution station in the Saudi city of Medina earlier this week, the Saudi-led coalition said on Thursday.
Coalition spokesman Brig. Gen. Turki al-Maliki said the Houthis targeted the Taibah electricity distribution station on Tuesday, damaging a transformer and knocking it out of service, Al Arabiya English reported.
Senior UN official fired after criticising Israel
A senior official at the UN’s agriculture agency said he had lost his job for criticising Israeli policies in Gaza, as the body’s head condemned staff who “play the game of human rights”.
Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) director Ben Davis told AFP he had been informed in July that his contract would not be renewed after 26 years because he had allegedly breached impartiality rules.
