Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has called for renewed international efforts to strengthen multilateral mechanisms, prevent conflicts and restore peace, stressing that the tools needed already exist but must be used more effectively, consistently and fairly.

Addressing a high-level breakfast on peace hosted by Finnish President Alexander Stubb under the theme “Renewing the Commitment to the Promise of Peace: Harnessing Our Available Capabilities,” Madbouly said escalating conflicts are seriously challenging the multilateral system and testing the United Nations’ ability to fulfil its responsibilities.

Egypt, DRC probe ways to expand bilateral ties

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met on Wednesday with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Thérèse Wagner on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly meetings.

During the meeting, Minister Abdelatty underscored Egypt’s deep pride in the historic ties between Egypt and the DRC, welcoming the outcomes of President Félix Tshisekedi’s visit to Cairo last June.

Cairo hosts key Egypt-Greece-Cyprus defence talks

The Arab Republic of Egypt hosted on Wednesday the sixth trilateral meeting of the Defence Ministers of Egypt, Greece and Cyprus, as part of ongoing efforts to deepen strategic partnerships and strengthen coordination with brotherly and friendly nations.

The meeting opened with remarks by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defence and Military Production, Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher, who expressed his pride in the enduring ties between the peoples and governments of Egypt, Greece and Cyprus.

PM: Egypt committed to advancing right to development

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli has reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to advancing the right to development, stressing that the right cannot be realised amid ongoing conflicts, occupation, displacement, the destruction of infrastructure, and the deprivation of resources and basic necessities.

Speaking on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the high-level meeting marking the 40th anniversary of the UN Declaration on the Right to Development, held during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Madbouli said the Declaration marked a milestone in the evolution of the international human rights system by linking human rights with development, national responsibility with international co-operation, and people’s participation in development with their equitable enjoyment of its benefits.

FM, Qatar’s PM probe bilateral ties, regional developments

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held talks on Wednesday with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

During the meeting, the two sides welcomed the strong momentum in Egyptian-Qatari relations and continued coordination and consultation on regional issues, reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties and broadening co-operation.

Iran, US still far apart in peace talks

Russia pounds Kyiv with drone strikes

Russia pounded Kyiv with drone strikes on Wednesday, hitting railway infrastructure warehouses and fuel stations, just hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy met US President Donald Trump to discuss peace efforts.

At least two people were killed and more than 30 were injured in the attack. which lasted for hours from the morning into early afternoon, officials said, in one of the heaviest strikes since Russia began hitting Kyiv and nearby areas with faster and high-flying jet drones that are harder to intercept.

Several explosions were heard and smoke billowed above the centre of the Ukrainian capital and other areas.
