Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said Friday that expanding reliance on domestic production is essential to overcoming the country’s economic difficulties, while urging a gradual reduction in the dollar’s dominant role in the economy.
In a message issued for Iran’s Government Week, Khamenei called on the government to give “serious attention” to the interconnected challenges affecting the economy and people’s livelihoods, including inflation, unemployment, price controls, and the regulation of goods and services markets.
Trump signs order to create a US Space Academy
President Donald Trump on Friday signed an executive order to begin creating a US Space Academy, a new institution modeled on West Point and other top US military service academies.
“It’s called the US Space Academy. That’s a big deal,” Trump said during a visit to NASA’s Johnson Space Centre in Houston, where he honored the Artemis II crew with the Congressional Space Medal of Honor.
Egypt central bank clarifies scope of US action against Banque Misr’s UAE branch
Egypt’s central bank said on Friday that measures reportedly imposed by the United States over Iran-related sanctions were limited to the UAE branch of Banque Misr’s dealings in US dollars with correspondent banks.
The Central Bank of Egypt and the Foreign Ministry are in contact with US officials regarding the measures, it said in a statement.
Egypt to host global fatwa conference on family, identity
The 11th international conference of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide will examine the impact of sweeping global changes on families, values and identity, organisers said.
The conference, titled “Family Challenges Amidst Major Transformations: A Fatwa Approach to Protecting the Family, Envisioning its Future, and Preserving Identity” will be held on September 2-3, 2026, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Cairo Opera House announces season-opening gala on Sept. 9
The Cairo Opera House will open its new season on September 9, with a gala performance bringing together the Cairo Opera Company, Cairo Opera Orchestra, Cairo Opera Ballet Company and Cairo Opera Choir.
The “Season’s Opening Gala: A Night of Grandeur” will begin at 8:00 pm in the Main Hall, offering an evening of opera, orchestral music, ballet and choral performances.
