As the US-backed Board of Peace (BoP) pushed ahead with its roadmap for postwar Gaza, Hamas asserted Saturday it remained ready to proceed with the plan and urged Washington to pressure Israel to implement it, as Israeli officials warned that the organisation was exploiting the process to prevent renewed military action.

Hamas informed US President Donald Trump’s BoP that it stood by the latest stage of the plan, under which its operatives would hand over weapons to a nascent Palestinian governing committee in the war-battered territory.

Leaking grounded oil tanker off Oman sinks further

A sanctioned tanker carrying nearly 1 million barrels of oil appears to have become further submerged in waters off the coast of Oman where it has been grounded for several weeks, satellite images reviewed by The Associated Press show.

Crude oil has been leaking and spreading quickly in recent days from the Caroline Bezengi and has reached the shores of Qibliyah Island, off Oman’s southwest coast.

Egypt to display 275 artifacts from sunken cities in Chicago

Egypt’s cabinet has approved an international exhibition featuring 275 artifacts from Egypt’s submerged ancient cities at Chicago’s Field Museum, it said.

The exhibition, titled “Sunken Cities of Egypt – Isis,” will run from Feb. 20 to Sept. 19, 2027, excluding periods needed for packing, transport and shipping, the cabinet said in a statement.

Car bomb targets southwest Colombia after new president takes office

A car bomb exploded Saturday in southwestern Colombia, the army said, a day after conservative political neophyte Abelardo de la Espriella was sworn in as Colombia’s new president.

The army alleged the attack was carried out by two dissident groups of the now-defunct Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC. The groups did not accept the peace agreement that FARC signed a decade ago with the Colombian government.
