PM: Egypt keen to strengthen ties with Angola, expand co-operation across priority sectors

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly affirmed on Sunday Egypt’s commitment to further strengthening relations with Angola and building on the outcomes of the Egyptian-Angolan Joint Committee, particularly in the energy sector and other areas of mutual priority.

Speaking during his meeting with President of Angola João Manuel Lourenço in Luanda, on the sidelines of the Extraordinary African Union Summit, Madbouly conveyed President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s greetings to the Angolan President and his appreciation for the distinguished relations between the two countries.

Madbouly: Africa faces unprecedented challenges requiring joint action

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, speaking on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, stressed that Africa faces unprecedented challenges and ongoing conflicts that require joint action and a comprehensive approach to address their root causes, including poverty, climate change, water scarcity, terrorism, the proliferation of weapons and transnational organised crime.

Addressing the Extraordinary African Union Summit in Luanda, Angola, on strengthening mechanisms for conflict prevention and resolution in Africa, the premier emphasised the need to strengthen existing mechanisms within the African Union and regional economic communities to develop effective solutions to conflicts.

Egypt reaffirms solidarity with Niger

The Arab Republic of Egypt is closely monitoring the latest developments in the sisterly Republic of Niger, expressing its full solidarity with the Nigerien people and reaffirming its steadfast support for the country’s security, safety and stability.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Sunday, Egypt stressed the importance of preserving Niger’s state institutions, national unity and territorial integrity, underscoring the need to safeguard the country’s stability and the interests of its people amid the current circumstances.

Egyptian envoy, DRC FM probe ways to advance bilateral co-operation

Egypt’s Ambassador to Kinshasa Hisham El-Maqoud met on Sunday with Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, Francophonie and the Congolese Diaspora Thérèse Wagner to discuss prospects for strengthening Egyptian-Congolese relations and expanding bilateral co-operation.

The meeting focused on building upon the outcomes of the recent visit by President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Félix Tshisekedi to Cairo in June 2016, particularly by following up on the implementation of agreements and memoranda of understanding concluded during the visit.

Libya rivals agree roadmap for elections

A NATO official said on Sunday Russia is stepping up hybrid acts in Europe, but that at this time the alliance sees no imminent threat of ‌attack.

“Even as the Russians are facing very substantial resistance from Ukraine, they are stepping up attacks on Ukraine as well as hybrid acts in Europe,” the official said.
