Madbouly: Economic transformation programme nears final draft

Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has stressed the government’s commitment to finalising the National Economic Transformation Programme in close coordination with the Central Bank of Egypt, describing it as an integrated framework for the country’s economic priorities in the coming phase, in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

FM, Portuguese Counterpart probe bilateral ties, regional developments

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received on Thursday Portuguese Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Paulo Rangel for expanded talks on strengthening Egyptian-Portuguese relations and exchanging views on a range of regional and international developments.

Minister Abdelatty underscored the importance of capitalising on the promising investment opportunities available in the Egyptian market, highlighting the incentives and advantages offered by the Suez Canal Economic Zone and its strategic access to Arab and African markets.

Egypt localises nine oncology medicines

The Ministry of Health and Population has announced the successful localisation of the production of nine medicines for oncology and haematology patients in partnership with the private sector, marking a significant step towards strengthening Egypt’s pharmaceutical security and supporting the sustainable availability of essential treatments.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Ministry’s headquarters, Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar said the nine medicines are being manufactured in Egypt for the first time and cover six areas of oncology and haematology care, including liver, breast and lung cancers, the two main types of leukaemia, and immune thrombocytopenia.

Rescue efforts end after 21 die in Gaza

Gaza rescuers wrapped up searches on Thursday in the rubble of a bomb-damaged building that collapsed a day earlier, where 21 people were killed and 45 rescued from ​under the rubble, a Palestinian official said.

Nearly a year since a ceasefire ended major fighting ‌in Gaza, reconstruction of the devastated territory has yet to begin. Most buildings were completely destroyed by Israeli airstrikes or bulldozed by Israeli forces, and nearly all of the rest have suffered damage.

Macron hosts security talks on Lebanon

The leaders of France, Lebanon and Jordan on Thursday met in Paris to discuss international support for the cash-strapped Lebanese army and the creation of a new force to succeed a longstanding UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon.

French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and King Abdullah II of Jordan.

First new cat species in century found in Bolivia

A diminutive wild cat that inhabits Bolivia’s cloud forest has been identified as a previously unknown species, marking the first time a new living cat species has been formally named and described ​in more than a century.

The cat, called Tilcayo by local communities, is part of a group called tiger cats found across much of South America. ‌It was found in Bolivia’s lush Yungas forest, a mountainous region where forests are often covered by clouds and surrounded by high humidity, according to researchers.
